Welcome to our latest newsletter! As we dive into the second half of 2025, here’s a look at key updates in health and safety, training, dashboard functionality—and what’s happening inside Team Rhino.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has outlined its key inspection and enforcement priorities for 2025/26, and recent prosecutions show the serious risks of falling behind. Here’s what your business should be aware of:
1. Exposure to Dusts (e.g. Silica, Wood Dust, Flour)
Regular health surveillance is essential. HSE has updated its guidance, with recent fines issued to manufacturers failing to manage this risk effectively. Businesses must ensure they have proper extraction, PPE, and monitoring in place.
2. Machinery Safety & Maintenance
Several recent prosecutions have involved unguarded machinery or unsafe isolation procedures during maintenance, including a flour mill fined £300,000 after a worker lost a finger, and a tyre company fined when a worker was crushed under a lift.
3. Manual Handling & Ergonomics
Workplace musculoskeletal disorders remain one of the most reported health issues. HSE continues to target businesses with poor manual handling risk assessments or lack of training.
4. Mental Health & Stress at Work
As part of a wider push on health as well as safety, HSE is inspecting businesses where work-related stress, burnout, and high turnover are prevalent. Employers are expected to assess and reduce stress risks just as they would physical hazards.
Some notable recent HSE cases include:
Stone manufacturer fined £60,000 for silica exposure failures
Wood supplier fined £40,000 for uncontrolled wood dust risks
Business fined £60,000+ after a worker was crushed under a car due to unsafe lifting practices
Multiple firms warned or fined for poor machinery guarding and lack of risk assessment
These cases highlight how quickly things can go wrong—and how costly non-compliance can be.

Where is the heart, really?
On every First Aid course, I ask: “Where is your heart?” Most people point to the left side of their chest — but that’s not quite right.
Your heart actually sits in the centre of your chest, about the size of your clenched fist. And in CPR, we press on the breastbone because we’re not trying to restart the heart — we’re keeping oxygen moving to the brain and heart until help arrives.
Think you could do that for 10 minutes?
